Economically inactive population with developmental disabilities: Factors affecting their economic activity status and intent to work

Abstract
The purpose of the study is to find out the current state of economically inactive population with developmental disabilities in Korea, and to find out the factors affecting their economic activity and their intent to work. The data of 964 economically inactive people with developmental disabilities who participated in The Survey of Economic Activity Status for the Disabled(2019) were analyzed. The frequency analysis, cross tabulation analysis and logistic regression analysis were performed using SPSS 26.0. The most frequent activity that the economically inactive population with developmental disabilities got engaged was ¡®taking a rest¡¯(66.2%), and the most frequent answer for the reason they are not actively looking for a job nor even wish to have a job was ¡®having trouble with work due to their disability¡¯. The factors significantly affecting their economic activity status were age, being/not being a Basic Livelihood Security recipient, disability severity, type of elementary/secondary school, education level. The factors significantly affecting their intent to work were age and subjective work ability. This study is significant in that it provided basic data for designing disability employment policies particularly for the economically inactive population with development disabilities who has long been neglected in employment policies.
